Automated Driving: Research

The pathway to automated driving is building on and combining experiences with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that help to avoid collisions. Avoiding collisions begins with the fundamental primary safety performance of the vehicle; braking, handling, field of view, lighting and the ergonomics of the Human Machine Interface (HMI).

Good vehicle performance is fundamental to safety, but the way that humans interact with systems can affect safety too. Sophisticated electronics and computing power are now contributing to ADAS, forming the building blocks leading towards driverless vehicles; with huge safety potential at all levels of ADAS to automation.
